Project: Living Room Renovation Part I

TV cabinets are plaguing every home that was built in the 1990's to fit the family television that nobody ever thought would be bigger than this.

As a result, people are living in homes in 2012 with awkward TV cabinets like this one.

And what's even more frustrating, is when you have a TV cabinet in the corner like that... your furniture layout suffers

And it's just not a happy room.

So, there's only one choice left....

Bye Bye, TV cabinet! Our blast from the past has finally reached its end.

With the cabinet gone, there was only one logical place for the TVs new home:
above the fireplace.

This came at a price though.

The original mantel height would put the TV too high for comfortable watching so the entire thing
had to be removed and replaced.

I decided to freshen things up with a clean coat of Benjamin Moore "Linen White"in semi-gloss

Dad built the new mantel and it fit like a glove!

Of course, Kyle provided the rest...
A new 60" LCD and ceiling mount surround sound speakers

And now we feel a little more updated, but there's still more to do!

Like getting a trendy fireplace screen to hide that black hole

Until Part II........
